Geez, it's hard to find an email for you. I just read your Slate article about bike commuting. I live in Cleveland and try to do the same thing. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that there are good baggy shorts with built in liners that are great for commuting and don't look goofy off the bike. Also, there are dual SPD/platform pedals (Nashbar sells them for $20) that, when combined with tennis shoe-looking, recessed cleat containing, bike shoes, make you fit in perfectly and get the commuting job done too. But for short trips they make it easy to ride with just regular shoes. Keep up the good work.
